Overview

Alcoholism:The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.Dual Diagnosis:Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person’s mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.ARC offers individualized treatment for people seeking comprehensive services that encompass co-occurring disorders and addiction. Authentic Recovery Center (“ARC”) is a full spectrum Dual Diagnosis drug and alcohol treatment center located in West Los Angeles specializing in treatment of individuals suffering from co-occurring disorders. Each program offered at their facility is focused on not only addressing the addiction component, but the underlying psychological disorders that may exacerbate one’s addiction to drugs and alcohol. Authentic Recovery Center’s view on addiction treatment and dual diagnosis is unique, and includes a piecemeal approach that is broken down into five separate programs: Medically Managed Detox, Residential Treatment, Continuing Care, Intensive Outpatient and Aftercare.Mental Health and Substance Abuse:A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.Opioid Addiction:Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Levels Of Care

Outpatient:Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.Medically Assisted Detox:Before recovery begins the body must undergo detoxification and rid itself of drugs and alcohol. If you or someone you know is in need of medically managed detox services, then ARC offers a variety of medically managed detox solutions. All services are facilitated with the assistance of independent professionals and are designed to address physical withdrawal symptoms. Their Los Angeles Detox Center utilizes the most advanced techniques in order to effectively assist individuals struggling with all kinds of addiction issues. Some examples include; alcohol detox, prescription drug detox, opiate detox, or benzodiazepine detox.24-Hour Clinical Care:At certain points in the recovery process, it\'s important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.Intensive Outpatient:Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.OP with ARC is open-ended, which means that clients may choose what works for them. If Residential Treatment and Continuing Care were thought of as stepping stones across a deep pond, then Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) would represent the final step towards solid ground. Unlike ARC’s other aftercare programs, outpatient treatment does not occur along a continuum, but is rather employed in an unorthodox way, which they have found from experience – and supported by the most current research – suggests that at this phase of an addict’s treatment and recovery, a unique approach works best. At ARC, the IOP is a fluid program whose emphasis is less on administering standardized modalities of treatment, or prescribing from a set of psychological assumptions, but instead one that employs whatever modality is most useful and applicable at any given moment with regards to both the individual and the group.Inpatient:Residential Treatment (Primary Care) is a residential level of care designed to support clients beginning the road to recovery after the initial medically managed detox has completed. The ARC rehab facilities’ treatment philosophy approaches each client individually so that the basic principles of recovery are receivable. Their clinical team evaluates each client to create personalized treatment planning and to determine what clinical methodologies can be employed to help each person expand their horizons within the framework of their own belief systems. The daily curriculum imparts educational material and provides each client with a positive peer community where new recovery principles can be practiced and established. Each client learns about the disease model, 12-Step philosophy and trigger identification so that new coping mechanisms can start to take root as the recovery process begins to take hold.Aftercare Support:Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community  programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).With ARC each client is assigned a case manager and a primary therapist. The case manager designs a personalized treatment plan which is flexible, but also defines specific treatment goals for each client as well as what measures can be implemented to achieve these objectives. During the day-to-day treatment the assigned case manager works with clients on their recovery oriented goals while the therapist works on identification and resolution of the underlying clinical issues that have contributed to the addictive process.Input is gathered in formulation of the after care plan from ARC staff that has worked with the client: All the physicians, nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, experiential therapists, licensed professionals, family therapists and substance abuse counselors contribute to creating a comprehensive, individual after care plan. Once the plan has been drafted, the primary clinician reviews the plan with the client. Recommendations for the future are made and if the client is willing, they are placed in supportive services to address their unique continuing needs.Intervention Services:Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict\'s behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one\'s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient\'s own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.Dialectical Behavior Therapy:Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.Eating Disorder Treatment:Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.Experiential Therapy:Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.Family Therapy:Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation. When necessary, each client has the opportunity to undergo a family program or relationship counseling to help with some of the intense challenges that have been born from behaviors resulting from drug addiction and/or substance abuse. ARC believes that behavioral responsibility should never be thwarted but also that a clean slate needs to be established for all parties affected by the addictive process. Relationship resolution often takes time and Residential Treatment allows each client and their loved ones to begin the process of reconciliation and helps to provide relief from the difficult feelings and emotions that have burdened the hearts of all those involved.Group Therapy:Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.Individual Therapy:In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.Life Skills:Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.Nutrition Therapy:Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.Trauma Therapy:Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client\'s past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
